5 Ways How To Improve the Battery Performance Of Your iPhone 5

Every time apple release an update for the iOS, iPhone users tend to worry that their devices are going to suffer from severe battery drain problems, and with the iPhone 5 this was a very common issue. The iPhone 5 is jammed pack with amazing features and powerful hardware so you’d expect that the battery provided would be more than enough to provide a respectful amount of battery, and you’d be right.

The problems with the iPhone 5 battery lie in the settings, once you’ve got your settings perfect then you will see a dramatic increase in the battery life of your iPhone 5, although it would be nice not having to turn features off to be able to use my phone all day without having to charge it.

Turn Off Wi-Fi/4G LTE

Unless you’re using a Wi-Fi network then there’s no reason to leave your Wi-Fi on. Many people leave their Wi-Fi on even though they might be driving, at the cinema or on a bike ride. The Wi-Fi features can use up a large proportion of your iPhone’s battery so it’s important that you don’t waste your juice on something that you don’t even require at the time.

The same goes for 4G, unless you’re in an area which has 4G capabilities then you don’t need it on. Your phone will continuously keep searching for a 4G signal and it will cause your battery to drop significantly. It’s also a good idea to turn your 4G off if you’re using Wi-Fi as there’s no need for both.

Turn Down Screen Brightness

A very simple yet effective settings change is turning down the brightness of your iPhone 5’s screen. The retina display is extremely vivid, but it doesn’t need to be set to be as bright as it possibly can be, especially at night. There is a setting where your iPhone will automatically adjust its brightness, but don’t trust it as it doesn’t always make the best decisions.

Power Cycle

This method is very effective and it doesn’t take any effort on your part. At least once a month, let your phone completely run out of battery so that it turns itself off. Then charge the phone all the way up to 100% (try to avoid using it).

Screen Lock

Having your phone setup so that it automatically locks after 5 minutes is a bad idea, 5 minutes is far too long. Having it unlocked leaves your phone screen on which uses up more and more of your precious battery life. I recommend that you have it on 1 minute; this allows time for you to do things quickly away from your phone without having to unlock it.

Accessories

Try to limit your accessories which require power from your iPhone 5. I’ve seen many people using a keyboard for their phones and then moaning that they have no battery left. Take a look at this Bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone 5 which runs via its own battery.

Following these simple steps should (fingers crossed) improve the battery life of your iPhone 5. If you still find that your iPhone isn’t holding charge for as long as it should then your phone may be fault, and I’d advise you to go to an apple store and get it checked out. Hopefully, Apple will be releasing an update which will improve the battery performance but let’s not get our hopes up.
