Amazon's Alexa Now in Home Robot Form with the Omate Yumi

Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant is now in an interesting new form factor: inside an adorable robot. Omate, who is known for their smart watch, offers the Yumi at a starting price of just $369. This is via an early bird special at Indie Gogo. This is $230 less than the ASUS Zenbo, a similarly compact home robot unveiled at Computex 2016. In comparison, the Omate Yumi is slightly smaller at only 11.7 inches compared to the Zenbo and lacks the same flexible mobility. It does have wheeled rotor engines however and can be used as a remote inspection device ordered to roll around the house from a smartphone.

Packed with Amazon Alexa Features

Just like the Amazon Echo, the Yumi is fully interactive and receives voice commands and it can also interact with other artificial intelligence assistants in the same network.  Inside is a full Android ecosystem which gives it a leg up when it comes to developer friendliness. Users can even run their own customized Android apps, develop Amazon Alexa skills or port any artificial intelligence on top of Yumi.

The Omate Yumi’s adorable face is even customizable as it is essentially a 5-inch 720p capacitive touch panel display. A 1.3GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A53 64-bit processor is at its heart with an ARM Mali T720 GPU for handling graphics. It uses 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM for memory and has 8GB of eMMC for storage. Wireless connectivity capabilities 802.11AC WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Omate’s Indiegogo campaign has a month left to go and is approaching the half-way point of their goal of $30,000. With $369 USD, users will receive a Yumi unit with free shipping. This is an LE beta unit. Moreover, it even includes a certificate acknowledging its count in the initial run of 100 units.
