ASUS HD 6770 DirectCU passive video card released

Graphics card giant ASUS has released a passively cooled (therefore silent) HD 6770 AMD graphics card, the card will also be using the ASUS Direct CU cooler. The cooler is based on a direct contact between four Nickel plated copper heat pipes onto the graphics chip, the heat is then dissipated through a large number of Aluminum fins. The Direct CU cooler on this ASUS card is actually much longer than the card’s Printed Circuit Board (PCB).

The HD 6770 as you may already know is a rebranded HD 5770 based on the 40nm technology most 5 and 6 series AMD cards are based on. It has 800 stream processors, 128 bit interface, 1GB of GDDR5 memory, 850MHz core clock and a 4.8GHz effective memory clock. The card is relatively low power drawing from only one PCI-E 6 pin power connector with a maximum power consumption of about 110W. ASUS has added its Super Alloy VRM components which are more efficient and don’t make a buzzing noise under load meaning the HD 6770 is genuinely silent. One DVI, VGA and HDMI port is provided for connectivity. No words on pricing, estimates look realistic for about £95 / $150.
