EVGA SR-X Dual Socket LGA 2011 motherboard at CES

Although there has been a lot of speculation around whether the SR2 successor would even come and what it would be called EVGA have set things straight at this years CES. The EVGA SR2 successor is to take the naming of the SR-X not the SR3 as speculated previously. The motherboard will be the ultimate addition to any enthusiast’s Arsenal, you can run LGA 2011 processors from the Core i7 extreme series in a single CPU configuration but if you want to run dual-CPUs you must use the Sandy Bridge-EP Intel Xeon processors for this, as only Xeon processors have the required QPI lanes which will allow two (or more) CPUs to communicate with each other on the same motherboard.

The motherboard supports quad channel memory as you would expect from the new LGA 2011 platform, it has 12 DDR3 DIMM slots supporting up to 96GB of RAM. As far as multi-GPU configurations goes EVGA have been at it with the switches again, adding enough lanes for a staggering 7 PCI-E 3.0 16X lanes which will support both quad CrossFireX and SLI. The rest of the specs are as follows:

Two (one 8-pin and one 6-pin) power connector per CPU, six SATA and four SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) ports, PCIe disable switches, voltage read points, a debug LED, dual Gigabit Ethernet, two eSATA ports, 7.1 channel audio, Bluetooth, EVBot support, plus six USB 3.0 connectors (four on the back plate, two via a header).

As far as pricing and availability goes EVGA were keen to not release any information. Taking into consideration the EVGA SR2 costs a staggering £500 still, we expect this board could easily come in upwards of £750 as this is the latest and greatest in the motherboard market.
