According to some fresh reports an upcoming device from Google known as “Volantis/Flounder”, that is believed to be the Nexus 8, will be released as soon as the Google I/O 2014 event. The event takes place on June 25th and 26th and Google is expected to announce this new Nexus 8 device then. Digging around in the “Android Open Source Project” (AOSP) source code has revealed several references to the Volantis/Flounder device which Google has actively been removing from its search engine in an effort to keep the device a secret. The above is a snippet of comments by several Android developers which spills some details about the Nexus 8. They make reference to the fact that the “Flounder” device will be Nvidia Tegra-based, the exact SoC is not specified but the Tegra K1 seems likely. Additional discussions make reference to the Nexus 8 being both a 32 and 64 bit device, so only time will tell which one is correct. In theory it could be either since’s Nvidia’s Tegra K1 SoC is rumoured to have both 32 and 64 bit varieties.

Stay tuned for more details on the Nexus 8 as we edge closer towards Google’s I/O 2014 event!
