Grand Theft Auto V: Has Rockstar Been Playing us For Fools?

Ahh Rockstar, the brand everyone knows thanks to Grand Theft Auto (GTA). Well it seems that they have been playing PC gamers for fools with very sporadic information regarding the PC release. Obviously it is coming to the PC, with its launch date in just two days (14th April US), but let’s see how the story progressed.

During a recent interview with PCGamer, Rockstar claimed it was always going to bring GTA V to PC.

“We planned from day 1 for a PC build and we made technical decisions based off the fact that we would be doing a PC version of the game. While we started development of the PC version quite early, we decided to focus the bulk of our attention on the PS3 and XB360 versions first in order to push that as far as we possibly could.”

But this contradicts what was initially claimed by Rockstar way back in October 2012.

“For those asking about the PC platform, we’re currently focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game and don’t have any details to share about a PC version at this time.”

So with the release of such a massively anticipated game around the time where the next generation consoles were soon to be released, really pushing current gen (XBOX 360 and PS3) was at the forefront of their marketing campaign. The game was always planned for PC, so development started early; almost in line with the development of the console versions. The same interview with PCGamer proven this.

“The process of bringing GTA 5 to PC was most similar to our last PC title, Max Payne 3. Our process of bringing titles to PC has evolved over the years. We knew that we would eventually create a PC version so early development was done in parallel with the console versions. In fact, some of the early preparations we made for PC, like 64 bit & DX11 support, paid off very handsomely when the PS4 and Xbox One architectures were announced.”

So does this mean that the PC version isn’t a console port? Much better playability from launch with 100% support from graphics card vendors? let’s hope so.

Have you pre-loaded GTA V yet? Let us know on our forums and in the comments.

Thanks to DSOG for this information

        • Dale Peter Golder

i would say that sucks but its a preload so no matter how long it took youd still have to wait to play it…. i was just shocked it went so quickly for me

  • Djdat

This is definetly not a console port.

  • random1uploada .

I’ve been waiting since March when I pre-ordered it! 🙁 Got the preload on the day they released it, but at least that makes it feel more real now. 🙂

I don’t think you know what contradiction means…

    • crescentish

Yes, I got that as well. All the did is say that they can’t comment on the PC version and confirmed the focus on the consoles. Where is the contradiction?

Of course they’ve been playing us for fools. Everyones buying it for 60 dollars. Its over a year old and still charging 60 dollars for it. PC elitist will defend till the end that the improvements justify a game from 2013 still being sold at full price because its GTA 5 and its Rockstar and that this is the first time its been on PC. We are all definitely being played for fools. 60 dollars pls.

    • Teemu Jalonen

60fps instead of 30fps plus much better graphics is alone worth the price. I have never played GTAV and I will gladly pay full price for it and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be full priced. The fact that it’s been out for consoles for some time doesn’t mean that it should be any cheaper on PC.

And it’s basic marketing that they didn’t bring the game to PC any earlier. They got a lot more money because the game was only out on the previous generation’s shitty consoles so people who really wanted to play it, had to buy it for them. PC is vastly superior compared to consoles so it makes sense that they didn’t release it until now. Sure it would’ve been cool if they brought it at the same time as the other versions but in the end, it’s a company whose goal is to make money and this allowed them to maximize profits.

      • JakFudo

No it really isn’t worth the price. Stop deluding yourself. 60 fps should be the standard for any action game made in the last 2 years. 45 at the most is what it should have been.

        • Teemu Jalonen

Yes it should be the standard but the consoles are too weak so the only place where you can get the 60fps experience is on PC. For me, it is worth the price because I have never played it. If it’s not for you, wait for it to get cheaper or don’t get it at all.

        • James Brand

pity the PeasantBox 1 and Pornstation 4 can’t do either 60FPS or real 1080P Brah or you just mad that us PC elitists get the definitive and superior version of the game to play in 4k@60FPS

          • JakFudo

Who are you even talking to?

      • Jacob Mckinnon

Dude, HALO Master Chief Collection was $60 and you know what…. It included Halo combat evolved anniversary, halo 2(with really nice updated graphics), halo 3, halo 3 odst(soon too come) and Halo 4 all at 60fps 1080p and they managed to stitch all 100+ maps together for multiplayer(which kinda failed, but it was a tough situation for 343i). All GTA V has on offer is the original game( a masterpiece, however still was from 2013) with not a very great facelift(first person was a nice change, but the graphics weren’t overly great). I honestly fail to see where it is justified for them to release at full retail price(even more in Australia, $75 USD rather than the normal $60 USD)

        • Jacob Mckinnon

May I also note this was published by Microsoft aka M$

        • Teemu Jalonen

Sure, MCC has a lot of content but what does that have to do with GTAV? If a masterpiece that is only one and a half year old, comes on the platform it was meant to be played, why isn’t it justified to pay full price for it? Once again, if you have already played the game and don’t want to play it again, then don’t buy it for PC. But a lot of PC gamers have never played the game and they will buy the game and the price is justified for them. At least GTAV has tens of hours of gameplay. There are tons of AAA singleplayer games that have under 10 hours of content and are priced at $60, even games that are only 5 hours *cough* The Order 1886 *cough*.

Same logic can be applied with MCC. If you have played all the games and don’t want to play them again with nicer graphics, then don’t buy it. But for those who want to play them again or have never played them, it’s a great game to have (now that it actually works).

    • Kurt Kuppens

cuz it is $60 for a game that is over a year old i passed on it 😛

    • whodatwoe

I guess you’re really stupid then. Why can’t the game be released on the PC for 60$? It’s a new game on PC atleast. Just because it comes out on this platform doesn’t mean you HAVE to buy it. There are people who don’t own a console and will play this game for the first time but you console idiots are like ”omg i dont need this its just bettah graphgics on pc which dont matter gameplay matters uhuhu”. Think before you speak. No one forces you to buy this game on another platform. It’s EXACTLY the same as if you’d say when GTA5 was on the Xbox360 and One first and then be annouced to come to the PS4: ”its coming out for the ps4? pff i dont need that for 60$ i already have this game wont need it on PS4”. Well fine for you but no one cares. I bet you wouldn’t even complain if the game would have been released on all platforms at the same time idiot.

  • Kurt Kuppens

just means they was sucking money out of people is all getting people with money to buy it 3 times lol

  • Louie Hill

Doesn’t seem like a contradiction to me. All it is, is: We’re going to be working on a PC version. Then at the time of the second interview they didn’t have any information to share on the PC version as they were focusing on the initial release on 360/PS3. Basically it looks like they said they had plans for a PC version off the bat, but didn’t actually start working on proper it til inbetween the 360/PS3 releases and the PS4/XBone releases.
