Intel to be in our smartphones by 2012

Intel already dominates the netbook and desktop market, so it is important that they begin branching out into the world of smartphone’s. They plan to have a new smartphone released by 2012, they are currently working with a number of smartphone manufacturers to get one released by then. Paul Otellini Intel’s CEO, stated they would not be adopting and licensing chips from ARM. This way they would make less profit.

You may already know that Intel has invested heavily in mobile technology, It would appear that Intel’s latest Atom family chip, Medfield is efficient and powerful enough to compete with other current smartphones out there. Intel also demonstrated the Tri-Gate 3D Transistor design earlier this month, which allows for even better power consumption. This is vital in the smartphone market and will be a strong selling point.

I am really interested to see how Intel do here, it will be great to have such a large company entering the smartphone market. In my opinion, this can only be viewed as a good thing.

I'm with you on that! Lower prices mean an opportunity for people who normally would not consider buying because of high cost to finally join the party!

@Dean Sure is Dean hopefully we will have mega hand held gaming platforms, I mean the PSP Go's graphics are impressive as are the new windows 7 phones. But the phones are evolving quickly.. Lower prices will be great also.@EternalChaos AMD? Give them a few months lol@Omega Exactly Omega, they are ridiculously expensive.. Over £500 for a phone is stupid!@Lucas ever since I got my first smartphone it was terrible – HTC TyTN II but I bought another and another there just so much better than normal phones, I mean I was using a Nokia with the older S40 firmware on it and I hated it, it had nothing to offer.
