Final Thoughts

Price

A quick shop around will find you a set of the Kunai mobile for a little over £40 and in terms of value for money that makes these an incredible deal. You’ll struggle to find anything that looks and performs this well from a known brand. Sure there are a dozen or so Dre Beats looking copy cats out there that no doubt sound pretty good, but personally I’d take the Tritton name over those anyday. There are some great headphones out there for this kind of cash, but you typically won’t get the in-line controller and Apple product compatibility, making these great value for money.

Overview

Another solid product outing from Mad Catz and their Tritton range. They haven’t let us down yet and as with the performance we’ve seen on their other audio products for PC, Xbox, PlayStation and mobile devices, they really know how to make a great headset driver. The EQ feels well-balanced, the ear cups have a gentle but very secure fit, the headset is lightweight and stylish and still manages to sound like a headset that is twice the size and twice the price.

I’m sure there are people who may not like the electric blue colour scheme, or the bright orange and red covers, but they do make other colours! So don’t be put off by the funky design. Personally, I think the blue looks great and while I think I would look a bit stupid with blue headphones on, I do think it is nice to see something that stands out a more than the most often black and grey headsets we most often see.

I can understand why this headset works with iPhones, but I would have liked to see a more universal mobile support as personally I use an Android device and the in-line controller was all but useless on my HTC One XL. However, if you do own an iPad, iPhone and iPod then it’s great to see this headset work flawlessly across the full range of device, meaning you can game, work, call and enjoy your favourite albums all from the same headset. I even hooked it up to my PC at home and found it was just as good to wear while playing Battlefield 3 (albeit without chat functionality).

Pros

  • Very competitive price
  • Flawless design
  • Light weight construction
  • Customisable back panels
  • Powerful drivers
  • In-line controller

Cons

  • In-line controller is mounted too high on the cable

“There is a lot to love about this headset and with a big sound from its compact design, as well as a price tag that won’t hurt your wallet this really is a fantastic choice for iPod/Phone/Pad users.”
