Motorola files patent claims against Apple

Patents. Apple. Smartphones. Subjects that seem to be eternally in the news these days. And yep, you guessed it – they are back on the agenda again. This time it is Apple being subjected to a patent lawsuit instead of them filing it against another company. The “attacker” this time is Google’s Motorola, filing 7 patent claims to the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

The patents in question cover Apple’s Siri technology, location reminders, e-mail notifications and phone/video players. The smartphone maker now owned by Google is seeking a gargantuan punishment – the sales ban on all US imports of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and Mac computers.

“We would like to settle these patent matters, but Apple’s unwillingness to work out a license leaves us little choice but to defend ourselves and our engineers’ innovations,”

This is the second time Motorola has filed claims against Apple. Both times the legal measures have been a result of Motorola and Apple’s inability to come to a licensing agreement resolution. Apple insists Motorola’s demands are unreasonable, but of course Apple would know ALL about unreasonable after requesting $2.5 billion in damages from Samsung over a patent dispute.
