For those of you looking for a budget friendly processor, listen up! AMD officially launched five desktop processors today. Now don’t expect them to provide the performance of an i7 but they won’t break your wallet. The CPU’s, aimed at mainstream users, start at a very low price of $74 and cap at a still low price of $169.
The first of the five new chips is the Phenom II X2 255. This is clocked at 3.1 GHz with a 65W thermal design power (TDP). AMD released another dual core as well, the Phenom II X2 555. This chip is AMD’s fastest available dual core with a clock speed of 3.2 GHz, and it is available for $99.
AMD also introduced a new CPU to its tri-core family, the Athlon X3 440. It comes clocked at 3.0 GHz, a 95W TDP, and is priced at $84.
And if you must have four cores, say for all the multi tasking you do or multithreaded apps you use, well, AMD has also released two new quad cores, the Athlon II X4 635 and the Phenom II X4 910e. The $119 Athlon X4 635 is clocked at 2.9 GHz and has a TDP of 65W. The Phenom II X4 910e chugs along at a clock speed of 2.6 GHz, but features a reduced TDP of 65W. And you will be able to find the 910e at a price of $169.
According to Fudzilla, the company will soon roll out the Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition, at 3.6 GHz and a Phenom II X4 820 clocked at 2.8 GHz in addition to a new 800 series chipset. The launch dates for these have not been set, but you can expect to see them in a few months.
