It seems that AMD and Nvidia must be shopping in the same place. AMD picked up it’s weapon of choice yesterday and threw down the gauntlet to Nvidia.
AMD were on the understanding that they would have the edge of rival company Nvidia, due to rumours of extensive time being spent on Open CL among other projectors. Our sources have now confirmed that Nvidia is working hard to launch DirectX 11 this year. From what we have heard, it seems as though a launch will be due in late Q4 2009, just scraping it into this year.
The question is, will Nvidia be able to cram their new high end GPU coupled with DirectX 11 in before the anticipated launch of Windows 7? I don’t think so.
Even though ATI believed that Nvidia were focussing work at other technologies, it does seem like AMD/ATI still have that edge of their competition and should be able to launch its DirectX 11 cards before Nvidia. We can expect Nvidia’s offering to appear a month or so later
