Windows 7 on sale months before it’s appearance

As mentioned in a previous article, Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 7 operating system is boxed and ready and whilst Microsoft tries to defend the pricing structure, consumers want it now, and they want it cheap.

Microsoft announced that big savings can be had for pre-ordering the new OS.

Online e-tailors like Amazon.com are selling Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for $49, which is less than half of the suggested RRP of $119. Other pricing includes Windows 7 Professional at $99, rather than $199. Also included is free shipping.

Currently the most popular software product on Amazon, you can expect the early order program to run for the next couple of weeks

Just like the Vista launch, major manufacturer’s of PC systems are offering free upgrades to customers buying new PCs pre-installed with Vista. Novatech, a UK based retailer have already announced that they will offer a Windows 7 upgrade for free.

EU users will be forced to clean install rather than upgrade, due to antitrust rulings, but Microsoft have claimed that they will help European users upgrade as painlessly as possible.

If you haven’t already, you can try out the Windows 7 Release Candidate to see if it’s going to be the operating system for you, before shelling out the cash.
