In July Nintendo announced price cuts for its 3DS handheld console in an effort to boost sales and its popularity. The reductions brought the price of the handheld 3D gaming machine to $170 and now it would seem many more people have been willing to take a chance with buying the console. The period in August after the price drop came into force saw sales up 260% compared to the same period in July. Nintendo shifted 185,000 units in August in the USA. According to recent sales figures the Nintendo 3DS is now the second most popular dedicated gaming platform on the market.

Nintendo said this in a statement:

“Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS,With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red color launching tomorrow, and Super Mario3D Land and Mario Kart 7 arriving later this year, Nintendo 3DS will offer consumers cutting-edge entertainment and tremendous value this holiday season.”
