Nvidia could be planning external notebook graphics

Nvidia general manager Rene Haas dropped hints in an interview with Fudzilla that Nvidia was considering going down the external graphics route for notebooks and laptops. He did not confirm for certain or give any time frame but it seems safe to assume that the next generation 28nm GPUs would be the ones used for the first Nvidia external notebook graphics since the performance per watt is greatly increased in the 28nm architecture compared to the current 40nm generation.

It is believed Nvidia is almost guaranteed to go down this route as computing is becoming increasingly mobile. Tablets and notebooks lack graphical capabilties very often but they are becoming the norm and thereforeexternal notebook graphics will be created to counteract the loss of revenue in the desktop graphics market. The usual Nvidia partners will probably be involved EVGA, Gainward, Asus, MSI, XFX and TGT. External graphics are not totally new AMD pioneered it a while back for Sony Vaio’s and it was done via the Thunderbolt connection.
