Old-school FPS Style Reflex Arena Now Fully Released on Steam

Inspired by old-school fast-twitch first-person arena shooters Quake 3 and Unreal, Reflex Arena is now fully available on Steam. The game project was originally launched in 2014 as a Steam Early Access title and was a kickstarter campaign but failed to meet their fund-raising goals. Turbo Pixel Studios which developed the game forged on ahead despite this initial setback and now released the game officially for fans who have been waiting.

Old-school FPS Style Reflex Arena Now Fully Released on Steam

After the browser-based Quake Live was pulled offline in 2015 to make way for the new Quake Champions title, fans of old-school arena shooters have been looking for a similar old-school FPS gaming feel popular in the late 90s. Reflex Arena specifically was influenced by the Challenge ProMode Arena mod for Quake 3 Arena, built on a DirectX engine made from scratch. It includes an in-game map and replay editor, customization of player cosmetics, rendering settings, and a movement system that allows for stair-jumping, double-jumping, strafe-jumping and of course, rocket-jumping.

Reflex Arena recreates the lightning-fast twitch gameplay of the golden age of first-person arena shooters. It’s the best of both worlds: the speed and precision of a classic 1990s shooter, reborn inside a bleeding-edge 3D engine custom-built for the latest gaming hardware.

In the 21st century, first-person shooters abandoned the brutal purity of Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament, but indie studio Turbo Pixel decided it was time for a comeback. There are no chest-high walls to take cover behind here, and no profound insights into the horrors of war—Reflex Arena is nothing but fast, competitive, first-person fun.

Reflex Arena retails for $10.99 with the Reflex 4-pack containing bonuses available for $32.99. To celebrate the Steam launch however, the game is being offered with a 15% discount.
