Political Ad Claims Trump is Bad at Overwatch

Yesterday, a political ad appeared in Orlando, Florida, attacking Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump for being terrible at Blizzard’s multiplayer first-person shooter Overwatch:

The billboard, which points to website TrumpIsNotATeamPlayer.com, was paid for by a super PAC called The Nuisance Committee (TNC), which was started by the creators of Cards Against Humanity. Max Temkin, the co-creator of the infamous card game, spoke to Mashable about why TNC picked Overwatch as a vehicle to criticise Trump.

Temkin told Mashable:

“We picked Overwatch because — honestly the main reason is we’ve been playing a lot of Overwatch,” Temkin said with a laugh. “The game is really fun but also it’s super contemporary. For me it’s the most exciting new game that’s happening in the space right now.”

“There’s a lot of pop culture familiarity with the idea ofOverwatch as this team-based game,” he said, comparing it to games like Dota that require strong teamwork and cooperation. Saying that Trump always plays as Hanzo — a notoriously unhelpful hero in Overwatch — is like saying Trump will do what he wants with no regard for his fellow people, and then complain about those people he isn’t helping.

“We did not feel that if Mitt Romney won the [2012] election that it would be a threat to the democratic institution,” Temkin said. “We feel that there’s a very different character in the Trump campaign. We feel that very fundamental principles of the integrity of our democracy — free speech, basic human dignity, and tolerance for our friends and family and loved ones — are very much under threat.”
