Price drop of the Intel 7 Series boards

A report by Digitimes reveals that the first-tier motherboard makers are reducing the prices of their Intel 7 Series motherboard in order to compete for market share.

The original plan was to raise the prices to counter the higher cost of copper, but as the motherboard market typically bases itself on competitiveness, this price reduction may have been necessary due to fears of a slower growth in the market.

As a result of this price drop, the second tier manufacturer did lose market share, while the pricing in Europe for the 7 series motherboards dropped by around 3 to 10%. No word on the US pricing though.

As for the board itself, Intel is set to launch the 7 series chipset sometime in April.
