Today we are looking at the BFG GeForce GTX 285 OCX 1024Mb graphics card. This particlar card is brilliant for people who want the very best from the latest games. It’s a high end card for the extreme gamer, incorporating the latest technology for the very best gaming experience.
If you’re looking for a high end card from nVidia, this will be perfect for you. It’s branded from a realiable manufacturer, who give a fantastic warranty period, great customer service, and sufficient cooling for the card. You will be able to play the glatest games, including GRID, Crysis Warhead and many more on the highest settings, whilst maintaining a fantastic frame rate. It has the functionality for dual monitor support and HDMI. Although it does cost a pretty penny, if you specifically want an nVidia based card, then look no further. In comparison with it’s AMD competitor, you will find that the Radeon equivalent will come out slightly cheaper. That’s why i’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars.

Cons

We have rated this 4 out of 5 stars
Thank you to BFG Tech for supplying eTeknix with this product.

Hello, like your blog very much. I found it on google
Deek, when Andy reviews a 5850/5870 it will no doubt be compared to Nvidias current top single GPU card the GTX285.
As he said above, the card wasn’t available to actually buy and benchtest at the time of the review.
Plus the reviews arn’t really meant to be read exactly, more so viewed and listened to as there are more pictures and audio than there is on screen text
PS. Not everyone knows all the exact details of a graphics card, which is why information that seems menial to the enthusiast is included so that the not so computer literate viewers can hear information from a voice and not just read it in text.
I appreciated your comments Deek, but having tons of other cards in comparison in a video isnt the most viable option. There are other graphics card reviews on this site that you can see the results from so you can make a comparison from that.
The ATI HD5xxx series has only JUST launched in the UK and pricing is still very sketchy. £200 GBP could get you one, but at the moment involved pre-ordering the card, so its unfair to tell people to buy a card that no where has in stock.
Due to this, the 4870/4890 is a lot cheaper than this, and that is the pricing comparison with the AMD equivalent.
Pricing is normally found from:
http://www.ebuyer.com/
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/
http://www.novatech.co.uk/
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/
http://www.play.com/
http://www.tekheads.co.uk/
These are the sites that we generally get our pricing from.

This has got to be the poorest review I’ve read in a long time. Zero objectivity, where are the other cards for comparison? Are you basing your recommendation on the GTX285 compared to the HD4890 which is about $150USD less?
You’re also posting this after the ATi HD5xxx series release. How can you recommend the GTX285 at this point when the HD5850 at $259USD matches or beats the GTX285?
simply saying “Pricey compared with AMD equivalent” doesn’t cut it.
Why don’t you provide links as to where you get your pricing information as well?
Prices in the USA are very different from the UK, when price drops happen in the US, it doesn’t seem to have a knock on effect here in the UK, so looking at the price compared to the equivalent Radeon, i believe the rating is fair.
The main reason i do video reviews is to show people a 3D view of a product which is preferred. Most people can go onto the manufacturer’s website and get all the techno babble, but they want to see what the card looks like, the size of it etc…
Benchmarks are obviously a big part to play and they were featured and briefly spoke about. Having hundreds of slides showing the min, max, average etc… would take up a lot more time on the video bordering around the 10 minute mark which isnt the most viable option.
The settings used, made sure that the graphics card was getting full utilisation.
Definately not a home desktop rig, it is the same test rig that is used throughout all the reviews.
Getting hold of a i series chip is a bit difficult as Intel don’t hand them out all willy nilly.
At the testing phase before the results it does display a link to the website (http://www.eteknix.com/benchmarking/) which explains which cards are used on which settings so hopefully this clears up this issue.
Companies generally care about how their card is pitted against others, so when a competitor card is used in the “same” system, it will give a fair comparison, so whether is the latest cutting edge system or not, it will still show how it compares.
Thanks for your feedback though, it’s appreciated
Andy
That was a very, very boring review, of the OUTSIDE of a graphicscard…
People looking to buy a 250 pound + graphicscard, obviously know everything/quite a bit about PCI-E 2.0, power, dvi-connectors and the nvidia stock cooling is also not something most haven’t seen yet…
The most interesting thing: How does it perform? But you have not a word on that in this review! Well, you have a few slides giving mean scores for various resolutions, but min / max would be very nice as well.
Another goal when reviewing a graphics card, especially a top tier one, should be to bottleneck the card, with enough system resources left to not make the rest of the system limit the graphics subsystem.
And I got the impression that you just tested this card in your home desktop. Usually, people go with core i9xx series, overclocked over 3.6~4.0ghz for this purpose. A 955 (stock speeds?) is already a limiting factor. And a Jetway mainboard??? 550W PSU?!
When it comes to the “results” section of this review, the other thing I found lacking was the settings used ingame. AA level? filters? And sure, everybody always uses max ingame settings. But with Crysis they don’t: because that’s usually not the best way to get most from the card.
Why a comment like this? Because if you don’t do something about this, you are very unlikely to get to review products ever again: Your results will be (slightly) lower due to the used system, the results are unclear and most companies selling a niche product like this card will not be ok with that.
Best of luck in the future!
I found this exact same card on Bing shopping for $347.51 before shipping.
Now given that 1 day later I bring this price forward, would it have affected your star rating ($100 cheaper)?
