Conclusion

Shuttle’s XPC slim DH110 is a great little machine that can come in handy in many areas, whether you’re an SMB that needs signage or kiosk applications, whether you are a large company deploying IoT systems throughout your production line, or you’re a home user that wants a media or office PC, this system is perfect. It is both compact and silent and it is all that while being very power efficient.

The DH110 comes with a great CPU support up to i7 Skylake CPUs. The only limitation is the 65W TDP, but it still allows for a great amount of power. Even with a smaller i3 CPU such as the one I used today makes the DH110 work like a charm. The Intel H110 chipset is also plenty on the feature side for a system like this. In fact, it’s more or less perfect. The only little downside in the design, at least for some, is the DDR3 only support instead of DDR4. Then again, in a system like this, it really won’t make a large difference besides the power consumption. The good thing on the memory side is that the system supports dual-channel memory setups, something that is a necessity for proper 4K display.

The DH110 comes with plenty connection options, both USB 3.0, USB 2.0, COM ports, and a PS2 port. This allows you to connect pretty much anything to this system from peripherals and storage drives to bar code readers, scanners, and anything else that fit the ports. It also comes with a built-in multiformat card reader, another bonus.

The DH110 has a few features that aren’t unique, but really worth highlighting as they are strong selling points. I already mentioned one of these briefly with the 4K display support. The DH110 comes with both DisplayPort and HDMI out for multi-monitor output up to a 4K resolution. Whether the large resolution is something you’re looking for or not, it will provide great video out options. Another great feature is the dual LAN connection, both Intel. One is an Intel i211 and the other an Intel i219 and they support teaming and link aggregation. It also opens up more functionality for the system where two networks have to be served simultaneously or data has to be filtered such as in a hardware firewall or router.

Internally it features pretty good connection options too with two M.2 slots and one 2.5-inch slot. The M.2 slots consist of one 2260/2242 type M for storage and one 2230 type A/E for an optional WiFi card or another compatible device. The CPU is cooled by a custom made heatsink attached to two fans. While the fans are small, they aren’t loud at all. Even under full load they were barely audible.

Pros

  • Tiny 1.3-liter chassis-size
  • Supports Skylake CPUs up to 65W TDP
  • Up to 32GB Dual-channel memory
  • 4K HDMI and DP support
  • Dual Intel LAN with teaming and WOL support
  • 2.5-inch SATA3 and M.2 2260
  • VESA-mountable

Cons

  • Not that many M.2 2260/2242 SSDs available yet

“Whether you need a Signage/KIOSK setup, an office or media PC, or an IoT system, the Shuttle XPC slim DH110 will be a great fit and barely take up any space.”
