STRIX GD30 Gaming Desktop

CES 2017 saw ASUS reveal new products that will hit the market this year, and even more recently, they revealed their STRIX GD30 Gaming Desktop. This is the latest addition to the ROG lineup for 2017 which includes monitorsmice and microphone.

The STRIX GD30 Gaming Desktop has been designed to have a sci-fi and cyberpunk look, and the front panel is actually two separate parts, these can be arranged in 6 different positions. They will also be making a 2D layout for the front panel available to download, should you wish to plan your decals. In addition to the 2D layout of the front panel, they will also be releasing a source file for a 3D miniature GD30, so you can print a model of your new PC.

Inside there is the Aura RGB lighting, with 8million+ colours and multiple effects, which will light up in the centre of the motherboard. There’s also a vast amount of storage space with room for 6x 3.5″ HDD’S (or SSD’s) plus two more SSD’s. There’s even space for an optical drive, for those CD’s we definitely all still use.

Cooling wise they also have you covered, with room for a dual fan radiator, although they fail to state the supported dimensions, it might be worth checking that out if you intend on buying this. As for USB connections, it seems you’ll have plenty enough for VR, with 4 x 2.0 ports and 7  x 3.1 ports, there’s also a memory card reader on top of the front panel.

Let’s get down to spec options;

  • Processor options: Intel Core i5-7400 and Core i7-7700
  • Graphics options: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, GTX 1060 6GB, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080
  • Memory: up to 32 GB DDR4-2400, 4 slots available.
  • Motherboard chipset: Intel H270 Express
  • Storage options: 512 GB M.2 PCIe SSD, 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD, 512 GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD, and 3 TB 3.5-inch SATA HDD
  • Optical drive options: DVD-RW
  • Networking: Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac WLAN, and Bluetooth 4.0

As of yet, pricing is unknown, but it will be safe to assume that it won’t be for those on low budgets. Here is a link to the ASUS page if you want to read a little more about it.

Would you buy a pre-built system if the price was right? What do you think of this ROG gaming desktop?
