A leak coming from PCINLIFE presents a slide showing performance comparison between a GTX 580 and a GTX 780.

That’s right, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 780. This leak is right in time for counter AMD’s Radeon HD 7970 performance leaks that showed some impressive performances. It’s only sounds right from Nvidia to retaliate and skip the 600-series to go head to head with AMD’s 7000-series, stepping up the GeForce to 700-series branding.

The slide seen above displays the performance between the current GTX 580 and the next-gen Kepler-based GTX 780. The test bed used is a Core i7-3960X, Windows 7 64-bit, 297-series driver, 2560×1600 resolution with both AA and AF enabled. If the chart is correct, the GTX 780 is more or less twice as fast as the GTX 580.

It seems like Nvidia is really determined to raise the bar, with AMD’s leaks proposing 60% improvements, this leak offers improvements going near and passing over 100% in some cases.

2012 is going to be a great year for GPUs, which is going to see the fierce battle between companies and their next-generation graphics cards.

Yet, it should definitely be noted that this is a leak, therefore could prove to be nothing but a fake or a marketing advertisement. It certainly would be amazing if it proved to be true, but only time will tell.

The European premium Nvidia brand, KFA2, has today announced their latest entry in the MDT series with the GTX 580 MDT X4 EX OC.

Designed to be the flagship within the MDT range, it offers unparalleled performance in the latest DirectX 11 games in full 1080p. The MDT series aims at providing multi-display performance through the use of a single graphics card.

The GTX 580 MDT X4 supports up to four monitors for multi-display, however its main feature is “virtual single monitor mode” which allows to spread a single desktop across three monitors for surround HD gameplay, although 50Hz compatible monitors are required for this specific function.

Specification-wise, the card feature 512 CUDA cores pre-overclocked to 840 MHz, 1.5GB of GDDR5 memory on a 384-bit interface is clocked at 2004 MHz (3800 MHz effective). Connectivity includes three Mini-HDMI and one DisplayPort output.

Last month saw the roadmap for Nvidia’s upcoming GeForce Kepler GPU compiled, and now knowing the release date of AMD’s Tahiti, looking back at what Nvidia has in store, it seems that the GeForce Kepler 104 (GK104) is the one to stand up against AMD’s first next-gen GPU of the year 2012.

GK104 will be the high-performance GPU from Nvidia and it will be equipped with many features that Nvidia reserved for the previous high-end GPUs. However, the GK104 is not going to be Nvidia’s most powerful GPU, the spot has already been reserved for the GK100 that will be designed according to the company’s “go all in” ideology for its high-end GPUs.

3DCenter.org did the honor of compiling a few specifications for the GK104 as well as the GK100.

Here is what it sounds like:

GK104

• 640 to 768 CUDA cores
• 80 to 96 TMUs (depending on what the CUDA core count ends up being)
• 384-bit GDDR5 memory interface, 48 ROPs
• Built on the 28 nm TSMC process
• Products based on this will launch in the first quarter of 2012

These specifications may certainly have an impact on potential buyers of AMD’s upcoming 7900 series.

Market competition aside, these certainly seem to be some impressive specifications which clearly spell out next-gen.

Anyone with an Nvidia graphics card should take note of the new drivers from Nvidia, particularly if you own Battlefield 3, Skyrim of Batman Arkham City. The GeForce 290.36 beta drivers have been released and add ambient occlusion support for Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3, this setting can be turned on via the Nvidia control panel. Screen flickering and triangular artifacts associated with Nvidia cards running Battlefield 3 have also been fixed by the beta driver. Nvidia also claims that the new driver streamlines PhysX support for the performance problems in Arkham City some users may be experiencing.

Here are some of the first pictures of Galaxy’s yet-to-be-released GeForce GTX 580 given out by the folks at HardOCP.

While some manufactures just change the heatsink and call it their own product, some doing as little as changing the sticker, other try to improve, or better, modify reference card to appeal to a certain public.

Galaxy have taken their own approach to a reference GTX 580, changing it with their own display logic giving this beefed up graphics card a total resolution of 5760×1080, which translates into three 1920×1080 displays connected to this single card.

Display outputs have also been redone, featuring three mini-HDMI and a full size DisplayPort. The management of the display is taken care of by Galaxy’s own EZY display setting software.

As you most certainly noticed by now, Galaxy have changed the heatsink as well, adding a number of heatpipes, the GTX 580 chip and components are now cooled by three 80mm fans, all of which are encased in an acrylic frame.

No great graphics card comes without a good lighting show, Galaxy has indeed studded the frame with LEDs, giving it a groovy blue glow when in use.

The top card in this range is the GTX 580 SOC which as you can guess is a Geforce GTX 580 using the Nvidia GF110 GPU, but with increased speeds and performance. With cards like this on the market, when we hear the words “overclock” we generally find the card to have a 5-10MHz increase, but Gigabyte haven’t done things by halves and have increased the core clock speed from a 772MHz to a mighty 855MHz.

We will be taking a look to see how this card performs against the top cards on the market including the likes of the Radeon 6990 dual GPU monster, as surely a single core card can’t keep up with that, can it?

The UltraCharged version ended up clocked at 810MHz for the core and 3960 MHz for memory. It features the same 480 CUDA cores but has 2,560 MB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 320-bit memory interface.

The Charged version was clocked at a mere in comparison, 772 MHz for the GPU and 3800 MHz for the same memory. Both cards also feature two DVI, HDMI and Displayport outputs.

POV/TGT also point out that these cards do still have additional overclocking headroom with this cooler, giving you plenty to brag about. Hopefully a price will be coming soon but we don’t expect it to be that cheap.

Nvidia released beta GeForce 275.27 drivers today to help aid the compatibility of the new GTX 560. As well as that the new drivers have brought performance increases for the GTX 580 and GTX 560 cards.

Nvidia claims:

Increases performance for GeForce 400 Series and 500 Series GPUs in several PC games vs. v270.61 WHQL drivers. The following are some examples of improvements measured on Windows 7. Results will vary depending on your GPU and system configuration:
