Tesla Model S Paid For Entirely In BitCoins

The future is officially here, someone has paid for an electric car using a digital currency, heck it could have only been more futuristic if the user then also 3D printed it!

The slightly used white model S featured the 85 Kilowatt-hour battery pack and performance package, and was on sale at the Lamborghini of Newport Beach show room. We are guessing it was traded in against a roaring Lamborghini by it’s previous owner. From new the Model S is worth around $110,000 and while the dealer didn’t say how much the car sold for, we still expect it to have been a significant portion of the retail value, especially given the car was “slightly used”.

At the moment, BitCoins are worth a little over $900, however last week they were worth $1300, so it really is hard to guess how much the user paid. If he bought the car when the coins were worth less then the showroom just made a bigger profit, however if he paid for it while the coin value was at it’s peak last week, then he got an incredible deal.

“That’s right, an electronic currency was used to purchased a fully electric vehicle,” the dealer noted on its website. “Lamborghini Newport Beach is proud to announce that we are fully capable of accepting Bitcoin as payment for vehicles. We are excited to be opening the door to this new currency.”

Tesla may not be taking BitCoins just yet, but it is great to see independent dealerships taking the currency. Now you can buy cars, trips to space and even plastic surgery using your digital funds.
