The end of the road for Microsoft’s Zune

Microsoft has officially confirmed their plans to stop making Zune players.

While this doesn’t affect the Zune HD player for now, as well as continuing to ensure the subscription service if the use lives in the US or Canada, it’s not confirmed and probably won’t remain as it is forever.

Reason being varied, mostly because today’s smartphones include the music player ability, making the large screen audio players rather ‘old school’.

Another is mostly the fact the Zune players in themselves didn’t create a large ‘trend’, with the iPod being so popular, it was hard for Microsoft to insert themselves in a busy market.

Microsoft’s more recent mobile OS Windows 7 and 7.5 are still very capable and feature an interface rather similar to that of Zune’s, which should help in any familiars of the player to get used to.
