ViewSonic launch first ever AMD certified 3D monitor

As we all know, the 3D market has been swallowed up by Nvidia and it’s fantastic market as of late, and all has been very quiet on AMD’s front.

Obviously, we have heard a bit of AMD based banter with regards to the new 6870 card being faster than the GTX 460 from Nvidia, the 6800 performance figures that were leaked, and of course the all important launch date of the 6850 and 6870 but what’s so new about that? All companies bring out new products.

However, you may not have known about some of the new 3D capabilities that the 6800 cards include, including Blu-Ray 3D support. This is made possible with Multiview Video Coding or MVC for short, in UVD 3 which is short for Universal Video Decoder 3. What this is simply, is a new version of the graphics within an integrated hardware-based video decoding format. H.264 is a prime example of this.

Now its all well and good talking about the technology, but it’s no good without the hardware to back it up. That’s where View sonic come in with their first 3D certified display, the Viewsonic V3D241wm-LED.

The V3D241wm-LED offers a stunning 120Hz refresh rate for 3D images at a 1920×1080 full HD resolution. It also has a 20,00,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio coupled with a 2ms grey-to-grey response time which helps give the best HD video playback and 3D gaming experience.

In addition to the fantastic visual specifications, the monitor also has integrated stereo speakers providing four watts of audio output, a choice of connectors ranging from VGA, DVI and HDMI and of course a USB port for the other part of the 3D experience.

I hear you all asking, how this is possible? Simply put, the ViewSonic 3D monitor ships with a pair of 3D active-shutter glasses for the above mentioned USB port.

Pricing is indicated at around £330 and they should be available to purchase any moment now.
