Performance

Performance is unsurprisingly similar to that of the original Moody we tested a while back. The stock performance with all the settings at 50% for bass and treble sounded pretty good, but for the most part the bass was a little heavy. Dial it down 10% and roll the treble up to around 75% and the Moody 2.1 provide an incredible amount of low-end, clear treble and a smooth warmth to the mid ranges that will no doubt satisfy rock music fans.

The speakers are really versatile in terms of audio performance, everything from bass heavy electronic music to classical sound full of detail and with a good range, although you may need to tweak the bass and treble once in a while dependant on your source material, I found more bass for movies, more treble for gaming and somewhere in-between for music was the best, but that’s really just a matter of preference; what really stood out what just how much I could dial-up (or down) the level of bass and treble, so you shouldn’t have any issue finding a sound that suits your needs.

The latest addition being the powered headphone port is a welcome one, as the Moody seem more than capable of driving some serious power. It’s not going to be enough to satisfy the ears of your average Sennheiser owner, but it’ll give a good level of volume to anything you connect.

The amplified line in is a welcome bonus too, should you connect a device that has a low out-put level, the Moody will help bridge the performance gap and let you get much closer to the Moody 2.1’s punch max volume.

Max volume is far beyond what I would call reasonable, if you really want to annoy your neighbours, you’ll have no trouble here, although if you’re planning on listening to music at incredibly loud volumes for extended periods, perhaps you should invest in something more powerful overall for fear that you’ll like blow the Moody’s speakers.
