“Mouse without borders” from Microsoft

I’ve often heard that people use two keyboards, one for gaming and one for typing, sometimes they change mice as well. Microsoft has a gift when it comes to doing something new and sometimes unexpected as recently they developed through their Garage project a Mouse without borders.

Here’s what the Garage Project is according to Microsoft:

“The Garage is both a physical space in Building 4 at our Redmond HQ, and a company wide program that encourages grass roots invention, tinkering, ideas and incubation of projects. In The Garage, employees get together after hours to build whatever they dream up and the results are often impressive. 99.9% of the Garage projects either ship as part of a Microsoft project or remain internal, but every once in a while there’s a project that doesn’t fit into any existing Microsoft product which will get a lot of request from employees who want to be able to share it with their friends and families. In exceptions like this, the Garage community will rally together to and publish it as a standalone public download.”

Developed by Truong Do, the Mouse without borders is a software that allows your mouse and keyboard from one computer to be used on a multitude of different computers, that is, for example, when you have two different computers, one for work and another for home.

Mind you there is a maximum of four PCs, but the functionality is much wider than just peripheral, the control of the mouse on a different system means a connection between them, so files can be dragged from one PC to the other, it also allows you to shut the system down, lock it etc. from another PC. All of this is done over the network, so I doubt you’ll be able to access that functionality outside of your home.

The software can be downloaded here.
