007 First Light Cost $200 Million and Is Now the Most Expensive Entertainment Project in Denmark’s History
The Danish Broadcasting Corporation has reported that 007 First Light, IO Interactive’s new and highly successful game, had a budget of $200 million (1.3 billion Danish kroner) and spent a full seven years in development. The same information has also been reported by Denmark’s TV 2.
This makes the game the most expensive entertainment project ever created in Denmark, surpassing every other game and movie produced in the country. The figure shows the scale and ambition behind a project that has become one of the highest-rated releases of 2026 so far.
007 First Light Sets Record as Denmark’s Most Expensive Entertainment Production
The development timeline also makes sense when we remember that IO Interactive first announced the game at the end of 2020 under the name Project 007. It is likely that work on the game had already been underway for some time before the public reveal.
007 First Light is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The action-stealth adventure follows a young James Bond who is still on the path to becoming the famous secret agent known from the novels and films. The game is also expected to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer.
In other news, IO Interactive has announced that 007 First Light sold more than 1.5 million copies on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC during the first 24 hours after launch.
