8BitDo Release 64 Bluetooth Controller in Europe

Retro fans, it’s time to dust off those memories of the mid-90s. 8BitDo is finally bringing the Classic Grey edition of their 64 Bluetooth Controller to European shores. Distributed by Game Outlet Europe, this latest colourway hits the shelves on March 20, 2026, sporting that iconic N64-inspired palette complete with the legendary red start button and the blue/green A and B buttons we all remember.

While 8BitDo already has black and white versions on the market, the Classic Grey is the one most of us have been waiting for. It’s designed to bridge the gap between that chunky nostalgic aesthetic and the reliability we expect from modern gaming gear.

Tell Me More

The big selling point here isn’t just the looks; it’s the guts of the controller. 8BitDo has swapped out the notoriously fragile plastic gears of the original 90s design for Hall Effect Sensing Joysticks. These use electromagnetic sensors to eliminate the dreaded “stick drift” and are reinforced with a metal ring to keep things smooth during intense gaming sessions.

It’s built primarily for the Nintendo Switch Online library, but it’s no one-trick pony. With Bluetooth and USB-C connectivity, it’ll play nice with your PC, Android devices, and even the Nintendo Switch 2.

Key Technical Highlights

  • Hall Effect Joysticks: Uses electromagnetic sensors to prevent stick drift and improve longevity.
  • Switch Optimised: Button layout is tailor-made for the N64 Nintendo Switch Online library.
  • Multi-Platform: Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, Android, and PC.
  • Modern Features: Includes dedicated Home and Screenshot buttons, rumble support, and a customisable turbo function.
  • Connectivity: Supports wireless Bluetooth or wired play via USB-C.

What We Think

8BitDo rarely misses when it comes to build quality, and seeing the N64 form factor get the Hall Effect treatment is a huge win. The original controllers were famous for their joysticks becoming loose and “crunchy” over time, so modernising the internals while keeping the classic three-pronged grip is exactly what the community needs. At under £35, it’s a very reasonable entry point for anyone wanting to play GoldenEye or Mario Kart 64 the way they were intended.

As David Karlsson at Game Outlet Europe puts it:

“The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller is about more than just nostalgia; it’s about fixing the hardware limitations of the past with the tech of the future. We are thrilled to put this iconic piece of hardware into the hands of European gamers.”

Where to Buy

The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller in Classic Grey will be available across Europe on March 20, 2026. You can expect to find it at most major tech retailers with an MSRP of £34.99 / €39.99.
