A Fortnite Glitch Allowed Free V-Bucks and Items, but Epic Games Has Now Blocked It
A well-known glitch in Fortnite, particularly on Xbox versions, allowed users to get practically unlimited free items and V-Bucks through a store malfunction. Epic Games noticed the issue and has now blocked everything, but this has also caused additional problems.
In the first half of 2025, a glitch appeared in Fortnite’s item management system. It allowed players to request refunds for any purchase without actually losing the corresponding item from their account.
Many Fortnite players took advantage of this system, gaining free skins and items. By purchasing content and then requesting a refund, they would receive their money back while, in some cases, the items remained in their accounts.
Abuse of the Glitch and Its Impact
Some users abused the glitch heavily, accumulating large amounts of items, skins, and even V-Bucks bundles. This created a major imbalance in the game’s economy in an obviously unfair way.
Epic Games reportedly managed to fix the issue only in recent weeks. As a result, the company began a general rollback, removing the items obtained through the glitch from accounts that had abused it.
However, the situation is not that simple and has led to further trouble. The automated system seems to have mistakenly penalized players who had requested refunds in a legitimate way.
Epic Games is working on a solution. The company is now “restoring the items that were removed earlier this week for players who made less than 7 refunds since Dec 2024.” Still, it may take several days before the situation is fully resolved.
