A New Rumor Suggests the iPhone Air 2 Will Arrive in 2026, Contradicting Delay Reports

New information has surfaced about the upcoming iPhone Air 2. Until now, reports suggested that Apple planned a long update cycle for the Air lineup, similar to the irregular schedule of the iPhone SE — with the next model expected in 2027.

However, new data from the leaker Fixed Focus Digital indicates that the iPhone Air 2 may launch in September 2026, coinciding with Apple’s annual fall event (thanks PhoneArena).

This information directly contradicts previous claims stating that the device had been temporarily removed from Apple’s release calendar due to design revisions. According to the source, not only is the Air model still in development, but the iPhone 17e has already entered mass production. This means there’s a good chance it could appear at Apple’s spring event, usually held in March.

Apple’s Thin Design Strategy Faces Challenges

The new Air 2 is expected to include a secondary dedicated camera and be released at a lower price point.

Apple’s continued focus on ultra-thin designs stands out given the current industry context. Phones that prioritize slimness over practicality are facing resistance in the market. A clear example is Apple’s main rival, Samsung. Following disappointing sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge, rumors suggest that the future Galaxy S26 Edge has been permanently canceled.

The first iPhone Air was not considered a major commercial success. Many in the industry viewed it more as a test model for future foldable devices rather than a true best-seller.

The main issue with this design is physical compromise: making the phone thinner forces Apple to remove key components. This limits the use of large batteries or advanced periscope camera sensors — features that most users are unwilling to give up.
