ADATA Legend 960 MAX PCIe Gen4 M.2 1TB Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The ADATA Legend 960 MAX PCIe Gen4 M.2 1TB SSD was not in stock at the time of writing but you can check for stock in the US here and the UK here.

Overview

ADATA really just got everything right here, and it comes down to their choice of quality components. They’re using one of the best controllers, good quality 3D NAND chips and a competent 1GB of DRAM. All in, it’s not surprising to see the promised and real-world performance figures to be some of the fastest available to consumers today.

High Performance

I didn’t quite hit the theoretical maximum on this drive, but again that can be very system dependent. I have no doubt it can do those speeds given that ADATA has often given us accurate figures in the past. However, even the results I did get still have this drive ranking as one of the fastest we’ve ever tested, and anyone getting similar performance is hardly going to be complaining about the drive feeling slow because it most certainly is not.

Heatsink

The inclusion of a quality heatsink is certainly welcome, ensuring you can push the drive harder and longer without it thermal throttling. However, if you have a big heatsink for M.2 on your motherboard, that would still be superior. I love that the M.2 heatsink they’ve included is still compatible with the PlayStation 5 though, that’s a big advantage.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re looking for a well-made PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 SSD, then look no further. With the ADATA Legend 960 MAX PCIe Gen4 M.2 1TB, you get extremely fast read and write speeds, excellent durability and cooling performance, as well as a great warranty and competitive price. Really, I can’t fault it.
