Adobe dropping Mobile Browser Flash to go forward with HTML5

While Apple always left Flash out of its devices, and Android used it as a selling point, Steve Jobs his certainly laughing out loud wherever he may be right now as Adobe has officially announced the end of its Mobile Flash service to favour HTML5 development.

“Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates,” said Danny Winokur, Vice President and General Manager, Interactive Development at Adobe.

In the statement mentioned above, it is made clear that HTML5, being universally supported on smartphones in comparison to Flash, makes it the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser.

Adobe is not completely “throwing the towel”, sort of speak, it will still provide critical bug fixes and security updates as well as allowing their source code licensees to continue working on as well as releasing their own implementations.

This news will certainly put a big grin on some Apple fanboys, while Android will lose one of its arguments against the iPhone.
