Aerocool BX-500 Evil Black Edition Full-Tower PC Chassis Review

Now that I’ve spent some time with the BX-500, I’m somewhat conflicted with its design, even though I love the style of the chassis, some of our components didn’t fit in this case as well as they could have, such as the Antec water cooler needing to be mounted off angle and the quick release clips on the expansion slot covers were more than a little tricky. On the other hand this case was never really designed for components like the Kuhler 920, that much is obvious, otherwise they would fit. It is a slightly older design of chassis, which has taken a while to reach our shores here in the UK, so I don’t feel it right to hold this against it too much, although I feel people on the market for a chassis like this will regardless.

The Antec Kuhler is pretty hefty though, I don’t doubt that most other water cooling setups such as the Antec 620 would fit in here with ease. Fortunately this isn’t a chassis from a company called “watercool”, it’s the AeroCool, with such a wide range of fan mounting points on every side of this case, combined with the built in PCB’s to help connect them all up, you can really take advantage of some serious air power in this chassis. Perfect for those out there that feel a water cooled system is a bit too much to think about, which is true in most cases unless you’re over-clocking or running a CPU that is known to be hot under pressure, it’s not really required to have a water cooled rig, no matter how cool it looks.

One of the big wins for this chassis though is its style, it really does stand out in the crowd, the front panel looks fantastic, the side window looks stunning and its amazing just how much difference a coat of bright orange paint can make to its style, so while it’s not going to get our top editors choice award, it feels right to give this chassis our innovation award, there are a few little touches here that do make a difference, while not perfectly implemented for the system we fitted, this would still make a fantastic high build quality chassis for a solid mid to high spec gaming rig, but if your looking to build an ultra spec water cooled rig, you may want to look at the larger Aerocool XPredator chassis.
