Affordable New B3 QHD 144Hz Monitors From AOC Are Ideal for Work and Play

AOC is already one of the biggest monitor brands globally and with one of the most expansive ranges of displays too. However, they’re now expanding its popular B3 series with the introduction of two new QHD monitors designed to bridge the gap between office productivity and casual gaming. The 23.8-inch Q24B36X and the 27-inch Q27B36X bring a significant resolution bump and high-refresh-rate performance to a segment of the market usually dominated by standard 60Hz or 75Hz displays.

Beyond the Office

While the B3 series is traditionally aimed at home and workplace practicality, these new additions borrow heavily from gaming specifications. Both models feature a 144Hz refresh rate and a 0.5ms MPRT response time. This ensures that whether you are scrolling through long documents or jumping into a quick gaming session after (or during) work hours, the motion remains silky smooth. The inclusion of Adaptive-Sync technology further enhances this versatility by eliminating screen tearing, while HDR10 support provides improved contrast and colour depth for some content, but don’t expect OLED like images from the IPS panels.

QHD IPS

Both the Q24B36X and Q27B36X utilise IPS panels with a 2560×1440 resolution. This provides a substantial increase in screen real estate and detail over standard Full HD panels that we typically find in the B3 lineup. The 27-inch model offers a pixel density of 109 ppi, while the 23.8-inch variant provides a very sharp 123 ppi.

  • Adaptive-Sync and HDR10: Adaptive-Sync technology eliminates screen tearing by matching the monitor’s refresh rate to your graphics card’s output, keeping visuals smooth during both work and play. HDR10 support enhances contrast and colour depth when viewing compatible content, adding extra vibrancy to streaming video and games that support it.
  • Comfortable for long sessions: Flicker-Free technology and Low Blue Light mode help reduce eye strain during extended use, an important consideration for anyone spending full workdays at their desk. The tilt-adjustable stand (-5°/21°) allows for easy positioning, and VESA 100×100 compatibility means the monitors can be wall-mounted or used with monitor arms for more flexible setups.
  • Simple, practical connectivity: Each monitor includes one HDMI 2.0 and one DisplayPort 1.4 input, covering the needs of most desktop PCs, laptops, and current-generation consoles. A 3.5 mm headphone output allows for private listening without extra adapters.
  • Two sizes for different spaces: The 23.8-inch Q24B36X suits compact desks and smaller workspaces, while the 27-inch Q27B36X offers more screen space for users who prefer a larger canvas. Both share the same 144 Hz refresh rate, 0.5 ms MPRT response time, and clean B3 design language with narrow bezels that look at home in any environment.

For those spending long hours at their desk, AOC has included Flicker-Free technology and a Low Blue Light mode to help mitigate eye strain. The physical design remains clean and professional with narrow bezels, making them suitable for multi-monitor setups. In terms of connectivity, the inclusion of DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ensures compatibility with modern PCs, laptops, and consoles.

What We Think

It is great to see high-refresh-rate QHD panels becoming the new standard for “general use” monitors. For a long time, budget-conscious users had to choose between the clarity of QHD or the smoothness of a high refresh rate. By combining 144Hz with a 1440p resolution at these price points, AOC is making a very compelling argument for home office workers who also enjoy a bit of gaming on the side. The 23.8-inch model, in particular, should be a hit with those who have limited desk space but still want a high-density, sharp display.
