AI Companies Secure Hard Drives and SSD Supply for 5 Years
In a market where AI data centers are growing very fast and using a lot of computer parts, hard drives and SSDs have become very important and highly requested products.
The situation is so serious that big companies like Seagate, SanDisk, and Western Digital are now making long-term supply deals, some lasting up to five years, to provide hard drives and SSDs.
AI Demand Drives 5-Year Supply Deals For SSDs And Hard Drives
The main customers are cloud service companies and large-scale tech providers. They want to make sure they will have enough storage parts in the future. By planning years ahead, they are trying to avoid running out of stock, since demand is now higher than ever.
For manufacturers, these long deals help them plan production better. However, it may also mean they focus less on the normal PC market, which could affect prices for SSDs and hard drives.
Prices are already going up. Hard drives have increased by about 46% since mid-September, and NAND memory prices have jumped by around 500% in just a few months.
While big AI companies secure their supply, regular PC users may face a situation where high-capacity storage is harder to find and more expensive. Some people wonder if this is just a normal change in the market, or if companies are protecting themselves in case the AI boom slows down in the future.
