Airtame Wireless HDMI Streaming Dongle Review

Setup and Installation

We’ve had a thorough look at the Airtame and its features, now it’s time to put the device into action. I’ve assembled the Airtame in a full setup for these tests even though I technically don’t need the extension cable. But since it’s there, I’ll be using it.

The first step would be to insert the Airtame into your monitor or TV and connect the power to an outlet. At this point, you’ll see the LED starting to flash. The device will need a little time to boot after which the welcome screen will appear.

The first step was really easy and it continues that way. Most things happen by themselves once we have installed the companion app on a PC with wireless capabilities. Turn the TV on and switch to the input channel with the Airtame device. At this point, the screen will tell you anything you need to do, step by step.

The first thing would be to download the companion application and install it. It isn’t large, but quite comprehensive in its features. Once installed and launched, the app will use your wireless network card to automatically detect the Airtame. And now we’re already almost done.

You’ll have to provide a name to the device, in order to identify it. If you’re just using a single device, it isn’t as important as it is when you’re using a lot. After all, you’ll want to stream to the correct monitor.

You can also enter wireless network details yourself, but you don’t have to. By default, it will set up the same settings as your PC is using, thereby eliminating another setup step.

On-Screen Information

The monitor with the Airtame plugged in, will update the status as the installation process comes along. It starts out with the download link to get the streaming app.

Once you have told it what network to connect to, it will attempt to do so.

When connected, the bottom part of the status will turn green.

After the connection is established, the device will grab an IP address from your DHCP server after which it is ready.

And with that, we’re done with the setup. Our Airtame is now ready to be put to use.
