Sony Interactive Entertainment, a company notorious for its hacks and cyber-attacks has said that they will support the 6791 employees whose personal information was stolen during their latest cyber attack earlier this year.
According to a report at Bleeping Computer, the hack was the work of ransomware gang “Clop” who were able to “[expoit] a zero-day vulnerability to the MOVEit Transfer platform.”
If you don’t know what MOVEit is it is a file transfer program from a developer Progress Software, who back in May 31st notified users of the vulnerability after three days of the attack. Sony quickly realised what was going on and that they had been hit by an attack by Clop and “immediately” pulled its MOVEit offline to assess the damage.
Sony wasn’t able to find out the exact time when the attack occurred they did confirm that the names and social security numbers of 6,971 employees were stolen in the security breach. Sony has offered their staff data protection tools to help with the breach.
