AlphaSync Threadripper 3960X RTX 2080 Ti Water Cooled Gaming PC Review

How Much Does it Cost?

While this system is available to order right now, many things are showing out of stock. I suspect this is purely an infrastructure thing as we’re in the grips of the COVID-19 lockdown. However, I suggest calling eBuyer on the phone or checking their stock page here for up to date pricing information.

Overview

The last AlphaSync system we reviewed (and actually the first we reviewed too) was a belter. It was affordable and the performance great. However, this system isn’t affordable, it’s big, it’s bold and it’s expensive. However, if you want to take a sledgehammer to a push pin approach to computing, this is the sledgehammer you need.

Gaming Performance

This is an absolutely beast of a gaming system, but then again, with the RTX 2080 Ti at the heart of it, it was never going to be a slouch. There are better gaming CPUs to pair it with, I’ll admit, but it’s hardly slowing it down much either. However, the 24-core and 48-thread CPU design are great for content creation. Want to game, stream, capture, edit, spilt feeds, run overlays, mix audio sources and render all at the same time? Then this is the gaming rig for you, especially if you want to do all of those things in 4K.

Day to Day

This isn’t the PC you build to write your emails and update your blog. This system is built to do some seriously heavy lifting. If you’re sitting in premier all-day rendering videos on your ageing and dusty old PC, this thing will cut your rendering times down to hours, even minutes, even seconds. It’s as close to being a workstation as you can get while still keeping a firm foot in the gaming world. A jack of all trades if you will.

Added Value

Well, there’s no added value so much as there is a lot of cool stuff that you’ll have to dig deep to afford. At over £4000, it’s not cheap, but you do get a lot for your money. I think the main attraction here is that this is a complex system with expensive and complex hardware. Having that built for you and having their support team and their warranty is a huge piece of mind. You might build your own sub £1000 gaming PC, but this is a whole different ball game. It’s beautifully put together, everything was updated and installed from the moment I opened the box. It basically plug and play, and I love that.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re just a 4K gaming fan, there are better options out there, with more sensible CPU options and configurations. However, if you need a monster size CPU, loads of RAM and ultra-fast storage in your gaming rig for content creation, this is the system for you.
