Chuwi might not be a familiar brand to most people, but they provide some interesting low-cost laptop solutions. Their LapBook 14.1 for example features an impressive IPS display for only $249. The new LapBook Air obviously draws inspiration from Apple’s MacBook Air line, but it only costs $430 USD.
Obviously the hardware inside is a lot weaker. In fact the LapBook Air uses the same Intel 2.2GHz quad-core N3450 as the LapBook 14.1. However, its body is made of aluminum and weighs a scant 1.3kg. It is also remarkably thin like a MacBook air. The display remains a 1920 x 1080 IPS panel with 320 nits of brightness.
Users can get the LapBook Air with 8GB of memory, and 128GB of SSD storage. There is even an M.2 2242 slot for SATA drive expansion as well as a micro-SD slot available. There are two USB 3.0 ports available and there is an HDMI port for monitor docking.
The $430 price tag is much higher than previous Chuwi models which were sub-$300. The aluminum construction certainly helps drive that price up. Either way, it is a nice alternative for users looking for a Chromebook and wish to run Windows 10. You can still find the much cheaper 14.1 model via Amazon, GearBest or Bangood for under $300. It runs a similar processor, albeit with smaller storage, less memory and plastic shell.
