AMD released their Athlon 200GE AM4 CPU with integrated Vega graphics three months ago. For $55, it offered a very good deal for those with a tight budget since it already includes decent graphics. Now AMD is adding two more powerful models to their Athlon APU family These are the new Athlon 220GE and Athlon 240GE processors. Both available starting today, December 21. Just in time for the holiday season.
Like the 200GE, these 220GE and 240GE APUs are built on the highly efficient “Zen” architecture. It leverages the advanced socket AM4 platform allowing for future upgradability. That means users can upgrade to Ryzen processors down the line if they wish to do so, using the same motherboard.
The Athlon 220GE bumps up the processor frequency by 200MHz and costs only $10 more than the 200GE. Meanwhile, the 240GE pushes the processor frequency up to 3.5GHz for $75 USD.
Otherwise, all three models have the same dual-core/quad-thread configuration paired with three GCUs on a 35W TDP package.
Since these CPUs are designed for the value conscious, a heatsink+fan is included with each package. These come with pre-applied thermal compound to further minimize user’s expenses when building with one.
