After the release of the 68xx series cards, all the AMD watcher’s eyes simultaneously turned to the release of the next big daddy of the GPU world: the 6950/6970 “Cayman cards”.
With a release date penned for the 22nd of November and a rumored 2Gb of GDDR5 memory, many people’s christmas lists had to suddenly find spaces.
However, it appears that AMD are having some last-minute problems; early pre-release boards and beta drivers are available, but at the present time none of the AMD partners have either the final chips, BIOS or even drivers.
If AMD doesn’t pull off a yuletide miracle, we may well be looking at a green christmas.
