AMD Crimson ReLive Driver Radeon Software

Keeping with their promise, AMD is releasing a new driver for the month of July. The first driver this month, Radeon Crimson ReLive 17.7.1 is a beta optional release. Despite being only a beta release and not WHQL certified, it does contain a number of important changes and fixes. These days, it seems like AMD and Nvidia are forgoing WHQL certification more and more.

First up, we have added support for Radeon RX 460/470 Series Graphics-based mining cards. This is due to the crazy Etherium mining craze going on, with various AIB partners releasing mining specific cards. In addition to the mining cards, the Radeon RX 550/560 Series Graphics are getting support as well. AMD announced these cards earlier in the year.

17.7.1 Has Little for Most Users

In terms of bug fixes, there are only a few and are unlikely to help many folks. First up, we have a bug crash fix for Tekken 7 for the Radeon RX 380. We also have a bug crashing fix for the Radeon RX 300 series in FFXIV and Little Nightmares. The interesting thing is that the R9 285 and R9 380 are pretty much the same card and the RX 300 similar to the RX 200. Given these similarities, we would expect fixes to be announced for both.

For known issues, AMD is still struggling with a large backlog. There are still a whole host of issues with Radeon ReLive and AMD FreeSync that need fixing.  Tom Clancy’s: Rainbow Six Siege also has issues with MSAA. Given that some of these bugs have been on the list for a while, they will hopefully get fixed shortly. Some of the fixes might even make it into the second driver release I expect for July.
