AMD Developing the Next Xbox at Full Speed, Report Confirms
The past few weeks have been full of rumors about Microsoft and its gaming division — particularly regarding the company’s future hardware. Some reports even suggested issues with the next generation of consoles. However, Xbox quickly made it clear that new consoles are indeed coming.
AMD Is Working at Full Speed
According to a report by Moore’s Law Is Dead, AMD is developing the next Xbox at full speed.
The report, citing multiple sources including an AMD engineer, states that work on the next Xbox is progressing smoothly. The most recent meeting on the project reportedly took place on October 3, which confirms that the information is very recent.
One source also claims that Microsoft has a contract tied to “Magnus” — the codename for the new Xbox APU. The agreement would cost Microsoft a significant amount of money if canceled. In other words, it wouldn’t make financial sense for Microsoft to halt production at this stage.
The AMD engineer added that the future of the Magnus APU depends on how Microsoft decides to position itself in the market. The chip was originally designed as an “Xbox project”, but it could evolve into a PC-console hybrid in 2027, or even become a standalone gaming PC APU that carries only the Xbox name.
Sources also note that the design of the next-generation console is still being finalized.
There are also reports suggesting that the PS6 could reach AMD RX 9070XT performance, while Microsoft’s next Xbox might be even stronger.
