As surprising as it sounds, AMD have actually shocked plenty of people by releasing their Radeon branded DDR3 memory. The memory isn’t just for OEM or enterprise users though, no, it is widely available to the public and is currently on sale in Japanese high street stores. Let’s make this clear, this isn’t another company selling memory marketed specifically for use on the AMD platform, this is AMD themselves producing and selling their own Radeon branded memory!
The 2GB DIMM, Radeon memory will sell in 3 specific product categories appealing to a wide variety of target audiences using an AMD platform, but not limited to one. For the mainstream user, the ‘Entertainment’ series offers 1333MHz frequency with 9-9-9 timings. For the enthusiasts and gamers, the ‘ULTRA PRO Gaming’ series features a stock frequency of 1600MHz and 11-11-11 timings. Lastly, the ‘Enterprise’ series targeting server users run at an undisclosed frequency with undisclosed timings. All modules operate at 1.5V as standard, operate in standard 240-pin DDR3 DIMM slots and feature a 30.0mm tall PCB.
An available retail price of around $20 USD for a 2GB module in Japanese stores could put this memory in the middle of a heated battle for cheap and good quality DDR3 memory.
