Intel is not going through its best moment; the decline in sales and stock market value of what was once one of the most valuable companies in the world has reached the point where the U.S. administration is considering a merger with AMD. Meanwhile, companies such as Qualcomm, Samsung, and Apple are watching closely, potentially positioning themselves to capitalize on Intel’s moment of weakness.
Intel has dominated the server and data center processor sector with an iron fist for the past few decades. However, according to the analyst firm SemiAnalysis, the situation has changed, and AMD has surpassed Intel in this sector for the first time in history.
In the graph illustrating the news, Intel’s data center revenue has sharply declined since 2022, dropping from over $6 billion to around $3 billion in the third quarter of 2024 — a decline of approximately 50%.
At the same time, AMD has managed to exceed $3.5 billion in data center revenue. This is a significant jump, especially considering that when Intel was hitting over $6 billion, AMD had barely reached $1 billion in revenue, thus tripling its revenue in this period.
The graph also highlights the substantial growth achieved by NVIDIA in this sector, particularly with revenue from its networking division for server systems.
