Last week, AMD finally unveiled their new Ryzen processors. Based off of the new Zen architecture, they feature a 52% IPC improvement over the previous Excavator designs. Now that AMD is competitive, Ryzen processor pre-orders have been flying off the shelves. Luckily for AMD fans, the company has reportedly prepared plenty of stock for the initial demand.
According to the report, AMD has prepared over 1 million CPUs just for the initial shipment. This means store should have these chips ready for the first month or so and more to likely follow. This 1 million number likely only indicates the Ryzen 7 1800X, 1700X and 1700 which are part of the initial release. We can likely expect even more additional stock of the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 CPUs when they do arrive later in the year.
With a total of 1 million chips priced at $499 to $329, this is a sizable investment for AMD to be making. If the company manages to sell all of these chips within the quarter, it would account for between 33%-50% of the quarterly revenue. Given the pre-orders selling out and the impressive performance, there is no reason AMD’s new CPUs won’t sell. The only question that remains is how well AMD has forecasted the sales.
