AMD Releases Driver With Just Cause 4 Support

When it comes to updating drivers, AMD has been at the top of their game. After the Radeon Software revamp, the company has been putting out drivers quite consistently. After 2 new drivers last month, we are getting our first one for December. While it is not quite yet December, I suppose it is a bit of an early Christmas present. The new driver is Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.12.1, a new beta release.

Surprisingly, AMD has just a single new feature they are throwing in with the new update. The only real noted update is support for Just Cause 4. It’s not that surprising given that the last driver is just a little over a week old. There is also the fact that the company will likely do their annual refresh of Radeon Software. We can expect some new headline feature like ReLive which arrived during the annual refresh.

New Driver Quite Slim on Updates

In terms of known issues, we have two old ones. Again, running multiple displays with one turned off can cause mouse lag. Windows 7 is also not playing nice with Assasin’s Creed Odyessy, with crashes at certain spots of the game. Hopefully, we will get these fixes in the next big driver rollup. Given the lack of substantial updates, unless you need Just Cause 4 support, it probably isn’t worth upgrading.

Later in the month, the company will likely release a more substantial driver. The new release will likely come with a name revamp as well as tweaking the underlying driver. With the new Unified Windows Driver model, the company will likely take it as an opportunity to rework things. Along with HD2000 to HD4000 no longer being support by Windows 10, may soon only have GCN based designs to cope with. You can find the full release notes and downloads HERE.
