With the launch of the RX 500 completed, AMD has continued on their promise to deliver on new graphics hardware. AMD has also continued to keep up the good work on their drivers. After delivering with their annual update with Crimson ReLive, Radeon Software has seen consistent updates. AMD Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.5.1 is the latest in the line of drivers, being an optional release. 17.5.1 is a beta optional release driver and is not WHQL certified.
AMD is heading this release as many are these days with a game release. Prey is gaining official support with an increase of 4.7% over the unoptimized 17.4.4 release. AMD has also added in a muli-GPU profile as well. In terms of fixes, the “1603” error when uninstalling Radeon Software has been fixed. One notable new feature is support for switchable graphics with Unigine Superposition for XConnect and Hybrid Graphics. Some other minor fixes for Forza Horizon 3, Civ VI and WattMan are also included. Last of all a welcome fix is that automatic updates won’t fail anymore for Radeon Software.
The company is still struggling with issues relating to CrossFire and FreeSync for a number of applications. Five months after launch, there are also many problems that remain with Radeon ReLive. Application compatibility problems and overall stability are still a major concern. Luckily, it looks like the driver team has been good at fixing problems as they become known. AMD has consistently been able to push fixes, with few known issues lasting for more than a month or two. You can find the full release notes and download links here.
