AMD Releases Radeon Software Crimson ReLive 17.4.1 Optional Drivers

With the rise of VR, various new technologies have been developed to make GPUs better suited for the virtual experience. To keep up with the various VR HMD vendors, AMD has released their new Crimson ReLive 17.4.1 optional drivers which are very VR oriented. This time, we have added feature support for both the Oculus Rift and SteamVR HTC Vive.

For the Occulus, AMD is adding support for Asynchronous Spacewarp or ASW. This takes ATW which is Asynchronous Timewarp to the next level. ATW compares previously rendered frames, detects motion based on the headset and then redraws the frame to account for the movement. This is important for when FPS is dropping below 90FPS to help reduce headaches. ASW upgrades ATW to take into account not just the headset motion but takes into account controller/hand. character and camera movement as well to improve the experience. AMD is adding support for ASW to the R9 Fury, R9 390 and R9 290 series cards.

With SteamVR, AMD is adding in Asynchronous Reprojection which is Valve’s version of ATW. This feature has been a long time coming since it was revealed last year and support was promised back at GDC last month at the Capsaicin & Cream event. Both the RX 480 and RX 470 will have support. Less exciting is support for DP1.4 HBR3 Support, 8K 60Hz dual cable support and 8K 30Hz single cable support unless you are one of the few users want those types of setups.

Last of all, we have some bug fixes as well. AMD FreeSync flickering is finally fixed and Radeon Settings won’t freeze after a driver update. Tom Clancy’s Wildlands is getting better multi-GPU scaling and AMD XConnect unplug won’t crash a system. In terms of known issues, not much has changed.
