AMD Ryzen 7 9700X3D Appears on PassMark; A New 8-Core Gaming CPU
The AMD processors are making headlines today. Not only has a new AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ reference been spotted with a full GPU configuration featuring 40 RDNA 3.5 CUs, but also a new AMD desktop processor aimed at gaming has appeared on PassMark. This processor is the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X3D, a more affordable option within AMD’s gaming CPU lineup, designed to compete with the current gaming leader, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which launched nearly a year ago.
Early Benchmark Appearance and Clock Speed Confusion
Now, users have an alternative 8-core CPU, where it’s expected that this upcoming Ryzen 7 9700X3D will feature slightly lower clock speeds compared to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. However, the data shown on PassMark doesn’t seem accurate, as the listed clock speed is 5.8 GHz — unusually high for this kind of processor. The single available test result might also be unreliable since it shows a higher score than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D itself.
It’s possible that the PassMark tests for this Ryzen 7 9700X3D were performed with overclocking, which could explain both the higher benchmark score and the unusually high 5.8 GHz clock speed.
AMD aims to expand its lineup of gaming CPUs by introducing a fourth model in the X3D family. This would increase the available options and provide a more budget-friendly alternative for gamers. According to rumors, AMD also plans to continue growing this range, potentially including a Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 with double 3D V-Cache, 16 Zen 5 cores, 200 W TDP, and 192 MB of L3 cache.
The arrival of the Ryzen 7 9700X3D shows AMD’s ongoing effort to refine its gaming CPUs and keep pace with market demand for high performance at lower costs. If confirmed, this processor could offer great value for players seeking power and efficiency without reaching flagship prices.
